Social & Events Committee
In 2010, the Congregational Board agreed to the creation of a group to organise events to raise money and encourage interaction with the wider community. Since then, the Social & Events committee has organised various occasions including community fun days, afternoon and jubilee teas, quiz nights as well as various concerts including choral and instrumental events.
The committee currently comprises seven people – Pauline MacKenzie (convenor), Willie Moffat (treasurer), Pat Thomson, Lynda MacCallum, Avril Sharp, Angie Lawson and Karen MacKenzie.
The aim of the committee is not just to run events but to encourage members of the congregation and those using the premises to organise events themselves.
When the committee was created, the Congregational Board also agreed to the creation of a dedicated ‘Renewal Fund’ where the money raised could be used for encouraging interaction with the wider community.
As well as organising special events, the committee also organise teas and baking on selected Sunday mornings after church.
Other fundraising activities have also been organised by the committee, including the sale of tea towels and calendars. A photographic competition, organised to coincide with the community fun day, sees entries featured in the forthcoming calendar each year.
We are always keen to share the load and so if you are willing to organise or help out with events or even simply contribute new ideas or suggestions please do not hesitate to speak to someone on the committee or hand in your name and contact details to the church office. We especially need help with publicity so if you live in a close why not take some fliers and put them through your neighbours’ doors. There are many ways to support...and its fun too!
