Amtrak California Zephyr

For a train vacation like no other, you need to take the Amtrak California Zephyr. The train travels from downtown Chicago to Emeryville, California, crossing the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. Passengers board at either end of the train and can disembark in any of the thirty-plus stations along the way. The trip will take roughly five days. After you get off the train in San Francisco, you can choose between connecting flights or staying in one of the many cities along the route.
